The Monster by Eminem featuring Rihanna - I had heard of this song but don't remember actually hearing it. It's not awful, and apparently the usual Eminem darkness. I'll re-listen to it and pay attention to the lyrics.

Die Young by Kesha - I can't stand this girl, I find her tacky and crass, but I have to say, as wholly inappropriate as her songs are for a woman my age, they're a lot of fun. Just don't pay too much attention to the lyrics.

Summertime Sadness by Lana del Rey - I LOVE this song and it is everywhere! Del Rey's voice is gorgeous.

Set Fire to the Rain by Adele - Interesting this should shuffle up after Lana del Rey, who seems to be Adele's heir apparent. What do you say about this song? It's gorgeous and Adele is phenomenal, her voice soars in  this.

You Make Me Feel So Young by Frank Sinatra - Wow! We start with Eminem being all dark and depressing, and we end with Frank Sinatra all happy and upbeat! This recording comes from his album named "Songs for Swingin' Lovers" - indeed! Different much? Haha! It's Frank, it's awesome...'nuf said!

Are you ready? I am I guess, we're driving up to PA to spend Thanksgiving with the in-laws. I'm in charge of wine - which totally works for me!

So, let's see what Pandemonium Pandora gets into today.

Mo Ghile Mear by Sting and The Chieftains - I really like Irish music and The Chieftains, when you add Sting to the mix well...wow!

Give Your Heart a Break by Demi Lovato - I liked this song but wasn't really sure who Demi Lovato was until she started on Glee. It's a cute song, she's a cute girl. A happy Friday tune.

Yo Solo Quiero by Roberto Carlos - I love this Brazilian singer! I went to see him in concert a million years ago with my mother - he was so handsome! I had sort of forgotten about him, but a few weeks ago on of those Internet rumors started that he had died! I saw it on Facebook and got so sad...but it was a hoax. It did, however, lead me to set up a Roberto Carlos station on Pandora!

Not Again by Staind - OK, I don't remember why I created a Staind channel. I remember I heard a song by them that I  liked, but I don't remember the song and I really don't like this one. I think I'll be deleting the station. Sorry Staind! Maybe if you buy a vowel...

Drift Away by Uncle Kracker - I liked this song the first time around in the 70s by Dobie Gray, and I like it even more now by Uncle Kracker. I like everything I've heard by Uncle Kracker - it's so relaxed and cool. This song makes me smile.

La Via Strangiato (Live in Rio) by Rush - Rush is my husband's favorite band in the whole world, so I created a Rush station to be familiar with them and stuff.  I don't love them but they're OK. But, this recording is 1) Live in concert - I'm not a fan of live recordings at all, 2) It's an instrumental, which is OK, I mean these guys are really good - even I can tell, but 3) this recording is 10 minutes long! That's too much instrumental Rush for me.

Ooops - that's six songs instead of five. Well, you got a ten minute instrumental Rush bonus! YAY you!

It's NaBloPoMo Time Again!

Yes, hi, it's me! It's NaBloPoMo time again. Specifically, the November NaBloPoMo. It seems like I may only blog regularly for one month a year. Oh, well, that's something right?

Happily, being November 1st, it's my wedding anniversary!

"16 years ago today I married my best friend."

Gah! While very sweet that statement is so not my style. Also, I don't consider my husband my best friend. The love of my life, my better half (sort of), one of the kindest men I know - absolutely. But he's not my best friend and I don't know that I want him to be. I want him to be my husband, my rock, my partner in everything for the rest of my life. And, thank God, he is all those things.

The 16th anniversary is a weird one - it's hard to remember. 15 was easy, it was milestoney, but, yeah 16 is one more than 15. So YAY us!

It's also Friday - and as I've done whenever I've been blogging regularly since I started blogging, Friday has always been either the Lola Shuffle, where I set my iPod to shuffle or Pandora Pandemonium where I set my Pandora stations to shuffle. I usually do 5 or 10 songs, but from now on, I'll try to add You Tube videos for the songs.

Since my iPod isn't at reach, today it'll be Pandora Pandemonium. Pandora Pandemonium is a bit of an adventure because I may have never heard the song that comes up! Let's see what we get...

It Will Rain by Bruno Mars - I really like Bruno Mars. Most are you straight up romantic - be they happy songs, or more melancholy, like this one.

Ecstasy by Anonymous 4 - I was hoping Anonymous 4 would shuffle up, I love them! I had never heard this. It seems to have a country twang element to it, right?

Pandora Pandemonium - The NaBloPoMo is Over Edition

Well, I did it. It wasn't pretty but I successfullyish completed NaBloPoMo. WOOO HOOO!

Forget You by Cee-Lo Green - Meh...I like the original. This safe-for-radio one lack the oomph.

Get Together by The Youngbloods - Ha! I've been singing along to this song for years, I know all the words, but I thought it was called "Come On People Now"!

I Can't Tell You Why by The Eagles - *Love* this song! I'm trying to think if there's an Eagles song I don't like. Don't think there is.

Hips Don't Lie by Shakira - Wooo...this song makes me want to dance. Just like Shakira does in the video. But there's the whole I would throw a hip thing. Also, I don't look like Shakira. Still - great song and how gorgeous is she?

Ubi Caritas Et Amor-Gregorian Chant by Gary Robinson - Oh that wasn't sudden at all! I got whiplash from that progression Pandora!  I do love Gregorian chants though, and you gotta love the diversity.

Rhiannon by Fleetwood Mac - Classic! Fleetwood Mac is like The Eagles in that I'm hardpressed to fin a song I don't like.

Hey There Delilah by Plain White T's (sic) - How adorable is this song? No matter how crappy my mood, this song always makes me smile. He sonds so young, and the lyrics are so lovely. Ah...young love...

Son of a Son of a Sailor by Jimmy Buffett - JIMMY!!! Wow, Pandora is on fire tonight! I've lot count of how many times I've seen Jimmy Buffett in concert. His shows are fantastic!

Richman by 3Oh!3 - Hahahahaha...OK so this is definitely NOT the radio friendly version! These people are just so so wrong - but so fun! These guys are a guilty pleasure. Don't judge me!

Goodbye to Love by The Carpenters - Awww Pandora shuffle up a "goodbye" song for the last one. I've loved The Carpenters since I was a little girl - and this song is so beautifully gut wrenchingly sad. Karen Carpenter's voice was like smooth honey...

The Water is Wide by Eva Cassidy - I love her voice! And this is such a beautiful song. Acoustic guitar and angelic voice.

Heartache Tonight by The Eagles - One of my favorite Eagles songs!  Big time sing-along-at-the-top-of-my-lungs-much-to-Hubby's-chagrin songs. I sing in the key of Me!

Soul Kitchen by Patti Smith - LOVE HER!!!  Not familiar with this one, but I like it! Her voice is strong and tortured and all Patti Smithy.  

Hotel Room Service by Pitbull - Pitbuuuuuuuullll...cubanito from Miami, representin' for the 305! Pitbull is a blast - most of his songs are wholly inappropriate, but fun as hell.

Angel Band by Anonymous 4 - Wow! Now that's a shift in gears Pandora! From the ridiculous to the sublime! If you haven't heard Anonymous 4 - do so. Absolutely beautiful.  

Come Fly With Me by Frank Sinatra - Can you taste the Martinis? This is sooo Don Draper. Frank in great voice. I never tire of this music.

Ho Hey by The Lumineers - These guys are new to me, but the little I've heard I've liked. Folk acoustic goodness.

Don't You Worry Child by Swedish House Mafia - Uh...whut? Never heard of these people. They're OK, they sound like all the other alternative whatevers out there. Actually the more I hear this the more I like it. Funky little groove.

Blue Skies by Tom Waits - Speaking of voices, how awesome is his? This must be young Tom, his vice is much smoother than I'm used to. Still very cool.

Sea of Love by Phil Phillips - Ha! I never knew who sang this. The first time I ever heard this song was in the movie of the same name with Al Pacino.

Pandora Pandemonium - The Return

It's Pandora Pandemonium time! Every week I'll either do a Pandora Pandemonium where I'll run a shuffle of my Pandora station an list the fist ten songs that appear, or I'll do a Lola Shuffle, where I'll run a shuffle on my iPod Lola. 

The exciting thing about Pandora Pandemonium is that I may not know the songs that come up! Since Pandora work on an algorithm called the The Music Genome Project where they suggest songs you might like based on characteristics of songs you alerady like - so who knows what we'll get. so here we go...

Rock and Roll Dreams Come True by Meatloaf - Meatloaf! Who doesn't love Meatloaf. This song like so many of his is super long, like 6 minutes or so...and oh the drama! But withn that whole mini-opera it's a great song - "There's always something magic, there's always something new...and when you really really need it the most, that's when rock and roll dream come through". And they do!

I Am Loved by Frank Sinatra - Is it possible there's still a Sinatra song we all haven't heard 7231 times? Apparently so - I'd never heard this and it's really nice. Sinatra is in extra-good voice. I like it.  

The Spirit of the Radio by Rush - Ah...Rush. Rush is my husband, David's, favoritest ever band. Honestly before I met him I probably had heard Rush's "Tom Sawyer" but couldn't identify the song much less the band. In the last 15 years I've seen them in concert and have learned to appreciate them. They won't be my favorite band, but there are several sons I like. This is one of them. Most of their lyrics are written by their drummer Neil Peart, not exactly Mister Happypants, but a really smart guy.

Drift Away by Uncle Kracker - I used to love the original version of this song by Dobie Gray. And in fact Gray "makes an appearance' in this one. To be honest, Uncle Kracker's version and voice work better for the lyric, but Dobie Gray still has the velevety smoothness. Excellent cover!

Bedrich Smetana's Vltava performed by the Berlin Philaharmonic Orchestra - I had never heard of Smetana, he's a 19th century Bohemian composer who according to the Pandora's info "along with Dvorak led the musicl movement for nationalism in his country". The music is beautiful, haunting but not depressing.

SexyBack by Justin Timberlake - I love this song and I don't care what anyone says I think Timberlake is extremely talented. The song was different from everything that was out at the time. The lyrics are what dance song lyrics usually are - no one should really care, and the music is super fun and infectious - it makes me wanna dance!

Top of the World by The Carpenters - YAY! I love The Carpenters! And I love this song! Com'on - you have to smile when you hear this relentlessly happy song.

Misery by Maroon 5 - Ha! Pandora has a sense iof irony - a song called "Misery" after an über-happy song. Although, it's awfully peppy for a song about misery. I like the song and I like Maroon 5, although I confess I'm not really sure which is Train and which is Maroon 5, but whatevs.

Chasing Pavements by Adele - Now *this* girl can do misery! What can I say? - spectacular lyrics and a flawless voice. I've never heard a less than amazing performance from Adele. She can sing "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and I'd get misty. And come on how awesome a metaphor (?) is "chasing pavements" for a fruitless quest? Can't you feel her pain?

Home Again by Carole King - This version is from the Tapestry album, so it's a young Carole King. Her voice isn't the best voice (she's no Adele!) but it fits her lyrics so well. I have this album but I haven't really heard this song very much, but it's beautiful. Her songs are truly poetry.
